Inspiring Educators

Osborne Education was set up by  Adella Osborne in 2013 and she has been inspiring educators around the world ever since.

Adella is an expert in the field of primary mathematics education. She works locally, nationally and internationally supporting the development of maths curriculums and ensuring first-class teacher professional development. Her expertise in the teaching and learning of mathematics and her deep subject knowledge is very much respected. Previously she was as a senior lecturer in mathematics education at the University of Brighton writing and delivering the Maths Specialist Teacher Programme (MA) as well as teaching on the postgraduate and undergraduate maths courses.

Adella provides continuous professional development to teachers across the primary age range in mathematics and is passionate about promoting children’s understanding of mathematics through the use of resources and mental imagery. She runs training events and conferences around the country and is a recognised provider for CPD in Numicon, Maths mastery and is also a NCETM professional development lead. She recently was awarded a fellowship by the Chartered College of teaching for her contribution to the teaching profession.

As a curriculum adviser for the Department for Education (DfE) she works closely with the standards and testing agency on the development of the KS1 and KS2 statutory tests pulling together her expertise of curriculum and assessment across the 5 – 11 curriculum. This complements her previous role as a mathematics adviser whilst working at the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) where she also designed ‘Assessing Pupils’ Progress’ – a tool successfully used nationally to support teacher assessment in mathematics.

Internationally, she has worked on projects in Brunei, Singapore and Rwanda, supporting the redesign of the Brunei maths curriculum and writing self-study teacher professional development units for teachers in Rwanda plus training UK teachers on the Singapore textbooks and the mastery approach having visited schools in Singapore herself.

Adella is an author for Oxford University Press and has written teaching and assessment materials for Year 6 as well as pupil books for Years 4 -6, drawing on her classroom experience and subject expertise.
